Born in Charlotte, NC and raised in nearby Gastonia, Patrick has been involved with music since a young age.  He found his first start in music through his church in various choirs.  At age 10, Patrick began learning the saxophone, following in the footsteps of his father who is also a saxophonist.

    Patrick pursued his musical passion at Appalachian State University.  There he studied tenor saxophone with Dr. William Gora and Rod Berry, with whom he also studied clarinet.  Patrick also studied flute privately with Dr. Nancy Scheeloch-Bingham and jazz studies with Todd Wright and Andy Page.  Patrick played with the ASU Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Wind Ensemble, Gospel Choir, Jazz Vocal Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet as well as playing clarinet in the Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble.  Patrick graduated from ASU with a B.M. in Music Performance and a Certification in Jazz Studies.  

    Patrick then went on to obtain a M.M. in Music Performance from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.  While there, Patrick's primary teachers were Dr. Phil Thompson and Tim Gordon.  While at Winthrop, Patrick performed with the Winthrop University Jazz Ensemble, Carolinas Wind Ensemble, and South Carolina Collegiate Honor Band.  Patrick was also selected for and performed with the 2008 TIAA-CREF All-Star Collegiate Jazz Ensemble.  

    Patrick has performed for such notable venues and festivals as the Blowing Rock Jazz Society, ASU Jazz Festival, NCMEA Conference, American Bandmasters Association, Lees-McRae Summer Theatre, Jazz Discovery Music Festival, East Side Jazz Festival, North Texas Jazz Festival, and Grove Park Inn Jazz Festival in Asheville, NC.  Patrick has conducted saxophone clinics for noted schools such as Davidson College and Lenoir-Rhyne College.  As a member of the Piedmont Jazz Collective, under the direction of Seth Carper, Patrick has been a featured performer aboard the Regent Seven Seas Navigator.  

    Patrick can also be found performing in theater pit orchestras playing saxophone, clarinet, and flute.  Past theatre performances include "Smokey Joe's Cafe," "West Side Story," "Oklahoma," "Annie Get Your Gun," "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum," "Damn Yankees," and "Crazy For You."  He has performed and shared the stage with the North Carolina Symphony, Wycliffe Gordon, Marcus Roberts, Ingrid Jensen, Chris Vadala, Rick Simerly, Roland Guerin, Jason Marsalis, Brad Leali, Mike Tomaro, Steve Wiest, and Poncho Sanchez.

    Patrick is currently on faculty at Davidson College and is a private woodwind instructor and freelance performer throughout the Southeast.  His middle and high school students have been selected to participate in All-District Band Festival and have received superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble Festival.  Patrick is a member of American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).
